XML Strengths and Weaknesses with DOM ASP and XSL
I sometimes forget that I have been working with XML and related technologies since way back in the day (circa 1996) when I first started working with the Site Builder Network and the Channel Definition Format they were responsible for promoting. According to Tim Bray CDF was the first XML-based implementation (the original XML Working Draft was published, as far as I know, on 1996.11.14) to hit the streets sending champagne corks a-flying over at the old W3C. [OT NOTE: Thinking back to those days reminds me that I need to track down and old friend of mine Kerry Woolsey who took over my position on the SBN team when I left to work for the Windows CE team -- If anybody knows how to get a hold of him please let me know...] I loved the CDF technology but I think its safe to say we were all a bit happier to be rid of the channel bar that suddenly appeared when IE 4.0 hit the scene... It seems the channel bar was just ahead of its time and/or a little too marketing oriented as I think you can easily argue that various XML feed readers (or components of these readers) now on the market have a striking resemblance to the channel bar (as does the PDC build of Longhorn -- ahh, recycled technology :)... Actually, if I am not mistaken I believe IE 6.0 still has support for CDF built-in. Anybody know if this is still the case?
What does any of this have to do with this article? Nothing. But I would'nt be true to form if I did'nt throw in a side note now and again that completely strays away from the topic at hand. :)
Back to topic... If you are new to XML and/or its related technologies (like XSLT) you may find this article helpful.
Enjoy!

CDF, Yes it is great in IE6 with Windows XP.
Did some tweaking in the registry to get my channel band back on the desktop.
Using a ASP-XSLT scrippy from Yasser Sohoud I am now converting RSS/RDF files to CDF’s.
The page link shows an example.

Hmmm… Mark, is that you? Kerry Woolsey here. I know of a way to get in touch with Kerry Woolsey. :-) I noticed you mentioned me in your blog (which I just found). How’s things? Drop me a line when you get a chance. I’m still at MS (on the MSN Portals team now).
